This gross abandonment of our humanity, empathy and community has happened since Reagan was sworn in: "Government is not the solution--Government is the problem!" He turned the nation against its own government, and Republicans have been claiming to "protect the family" from the liberal feminists and gays who have "seized" it to brainwash our children with liberal dogma ever since. Republicans made "liberal" a bad word. Spineless Democrats have run away from the description because they are uable to advance, defend and insist on liberal policies. Instead, they started calling themselves "progressives," which means they have apologized for having the gall to ask for all Americans to have health care or even a living wage. What radical ideas! The Democrats have settled for offering Republican lite--moving to the center--and they lost their traditional coalitions because they no longer serve them. We needed a complete overhaul of our broken system--the kind proposed by Senators Sanders and Warren for a decade. Democrats didn't listen or act, Republicans did, and here is the revolution that had to happen: it just not one of, by, or for the people.
